Abstract

Two known cases of diabetes mellitus, with plasmodium vivax malaria who had abnormally low HDLc(High density lipoprotein cholesterol) levels in the range of 2-5 mg/dl and abnormally high TC/HDLc ratio (Total cholesterol/HDLc) were observed during treatment in the hospital. The low HDLc levels were related to parasitaemia. Plasma triglyceride concentrations were moderately increased and plasma low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) concentrations decreased during the course of infection. The mechanisms underlying the selective and pronounced decline in HDLc concentration remain obscure, hence needing further evaluation in the direction.
