N2 - This paper is an attempt to explore and suggest innovative educational models. The paper suggests innovation in the three important components of learning environment viz, students, teachers and the curriculum. The focal point of any education system striving for excellence must be its students. Student Teaching Model (STM) introduced in this paper is one of the innovative educational models, which lays emphasis on student learning. The paper covers the basis of STM and the methodology of its implementation. A typical subject of engineering course is used to explain the implementation strategy of STM in technical education. Teaching faculty constitutes one of the major contributors to the learning process of the students. So there is a need to strengthen the leadership component of the teaching faculty from time to time. The Academic Leadership Strategies (ALS) have been suggested in this paper to motivate the teaching faculty towards the 'triple mission' of the profession. Finally, to draw on globalisation, the need to strengthen the managerial dimension in our technical education system has been identified by the authors. Accordingly, the Graduate Engineering Skills (GES) model has been critically analysed and new dimensions have been proposed, with particular reference to the Managerial. Skills for Engineering (MSE).
