Investigation on Erosive Behaviour of Granite/Si3N4 Particulates Reinforced Composite by the Experimental and Statistical Approach

Abstract

Composite materials are playing a vital role in the applications that demand least erosion rate. In the present work, an effort has been made to produce a novel composite with granite dust waste and test it for the erosion characteristics. The conventional stir casting has been employed to produce a composite. The composite had a uniform distribution of reinforcements in the Al7075 matrix alloy. Hardness and strength of the composite were increased by the modified aging treatment process. The material has been tested for its erosive behavior in a pot slurry erosion tester. The three variables considered for testing are the speed of pot, the slurry concentration, and the rotation angle of the specimen. The results of the study indicated that the pot speed has a greater effect on bringing a higher erosion rate. Taguchi’s OA approach has been used to validate the experimental results of the investigation. The composite developed and tested here can be the best alternative for the existing materials facing the erosion issue.
