IoT-enabled smart car systems: To save the child from accidental locking

Abstract

In the current world, the busy lifestyle of human beings is making them forget their important responsibility, either purposely or accidentally. This can be due to the work, family or financial tensions. One of such major incidents occurring is parents are leaving their children unattended inside the car for hours. This led to some serious mishaps where many toddlers have lost their lives. Internet of things is one of the popular technologies used in tracking and sensor devices. Using IoT many smart devices are built for security purposes in different fields of engineering. The proposed work addresses the issue of accidental locking of kids inside the car. The aim of this research work is to provide an idea to save children above 3 years if they are left inside the car unattended for long time. The proposed work utilizes IOT smart devices with the relationship of gadgets like motion detection camera, temperature sensor, carbon dioxide and Raspberry Pi devices. The idea is to call the emergency numbers which will be stored in the Raspberry Pi memory and ring the car's security alarm so that passerby people can be alerted, and they can save the kid. After 10 minutes of the car's engine is off and door is locked, the CO2 and temperature sensor get activated. The temperature sensor will be set for threshold value of 30 degrees and CO2 sensor will be set for the threshold value of 5000ppm. If all these four conditions are true then, the motion sensor with camera gets activated and searches for the movement inside the car. If these 5 conditions are true, then the mobile numbers of the parents stored in the Raspberry Pi will be dialed and missed call will be given and car's security alarm will start to beep. Giving missed call and car beeping will continue until the car door gets unlocked.
