Abstract
Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for a predictable 9.6 million patient losses, or one in six deaths. In men, lung, liver, colorectal, prostate, and stomach cancer are the most common types of cancer, while in women, breast, lung, colorectal, thyroid, and cervical cancer are the most common. In recent eras, stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. Light-responsive therapeutics have been developed as potential therapies for disease management. Photo-triggered formulations in combination with chemotherapy will be promising in the future for cancer treatment, and some of the formulations have already reached clinical trials. This chapter summarizes the different light-sensitive therapies for cancer diagnosis and treatment and their applications with mechanisms.
