    Abstract

The lighting design in a sport facility plays a decisive role for the accomplishment of a sports activity. Lighting not only enhances the spectator's experience in a game but also improves how the player's perform. From participation to adjudication and appreciation the right lit environment makes the activity easier. This paper is based on the quality analysis and energy effective design of a table tennis court located in the building of Marena, Manipal University, India. In the system LED lights are chosen to achieve the required lux level. The first part presents analysis of lighting quality of the existing system and results are presented here. Also in the second part an energy effective design approach without affecting the quality of light is provided and simulations for different levels of play is conducted. The lighting simulations are done on DIALux evo software to propose a lighting design complying to Philips lighting standards.
