Abstract
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease. Its propensity to affect the CNS presents with characteristic signs and symptoms. Although, the precise cause for MS is still under research. Various theories have been proposed to explain the etiology and pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis. Immune-modulated genetic susceptibility and environmental variables (infection, toxic chemicals, etc.) have been identified as key contributors to the prevalence of multiple sclerosis. Over a period of time with advancements in research technology, standardized diagnosis criteria have been established. To address the underlying pathology, various medical managements in terms of disease-modifying drugs have been in practice. This chapter has primarily explored the scope of physiotherapeutic management for multiple sclerosis. It highlights the comprehensive physical examination and tailored therapeutic intervention based on the presentation of the clinical features in patients with multiple sclerosis.
