Neurobehavioral Issues in Adult Neurological Conditions

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Many neurological conditions are known to produce various behavioral symptoms either due to direct involvement of the brain or secondary to the stress, disability, and medication used. This chapter gives a comprehensive understanding of neuropsychiatric manifestations of the various common adult neurological conditions like stroke, traumatic brain injury, Huntington’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and brain tumors, which predominately include major and minor mental disorders, cognitive deficits, and personality changes. These neurobehavioral issues are one of the most disabling conditions which affect the activities of daily living and have long-term negative impacts on the patient as well as caregiver. The current chapter also discusses various non-pharmacological managements, like psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior therapy, supportive therapy, support groups, cognitive remediation, lifestyle modification, and rehabilitation services, and pharmacological management for neurobehavioral issues.
