New locality records of Rhacophorus lateralis Boulenger, 1883 (Amphibia: Anura: Rhacophoridae), in Western Ghats, India

Abstract

Rhacophorus lateralis was described by Boulenger in 1883. Subsequently it was rediscovered by Daniel Bennet and team in 1998. The IUCN Global Amphibian Assessment has placed this species under the endangered category and considered its range to be restricted to Wayanad and Coorg in southern Western Ghats. The present account deals with records of the species from Central and Northern Western Ghats. Variations in the colour pattern of the species in its range is also discussed.
