    Abstract

The permeation studies have been conducted for betamethasone dipropionate from ointment formulation. The permeation was optimized using several permeation enhancers such as surfactants, B-cyclodextrin, bile salt, iontophoresis, sonophoresis, and hyperthermia. The permeation is increased with the iontophoresis and sonophoresis. The permeation enhancers used also increased the permeation through sigma membrane as well as through rat abdominal skin. By selecting suitable physical method of enhancement and chemical penetration enhancers, the activity of the drug can be optimized.
