Abstract

The advancement in technology creates an exponential demand for electric power, the gap between the power supply and demand is huge. A major portion of this gap is due to power losses in the conventional electrical grids. Conventional electrical grids have multiple problems like equipment failure, energy theft and uneven distribution of energy. These hindrances make electric power expensive and impact the economy. To overcome these hurdles, a smart grid system can be utilized. The smart grid systems significantly increase the efficiency of power generation and distribution and ensures effective utilization of resources. Smart grids increase efficiency by analysing the power consumption data and adjusting power generation according to it. The system helps in determining the efficiency of various equipment of the grid and ensures their timely maintenance, detects and isolates outages, and contains them before they become large scale blackouts.
