Abstract

Background: The aim of the present study was to identify and analyse the prognostic factors in patients with parotid gland carcinoma presenting to a central India-based tertiary care hospital. Methods: This was a retrospective study from single centre which included patients admitted under maxillofacial head and neck surgery unit with the diagnosis of malignant parotid gland tumours from May 2020 to May 2022. Patients medical record was retrieved along with their follow-up data for the next two years to assess the high-risk features affecting overall survival and disease-free survival. The collected data were analysed using SPSS version 25. Results: For the study a total of 24 patients were included, out of which 14 were male patients and remaining females. All of these patients were operated upfront with curative intent after obtaining preliminary diagnosis as per NCCN guidelines. Nineteen patients received post-operative adjuvant radiotherapy based on final histopathology report. The median overall survival and the median disease-free survival was 29.5 and 29 months, respectively. There were total of three overall survival events from the study pool. Discussion and Conclusion: Perineural invasion, preoperative facial nerve impairment and lymph node involvement were the most important variables affecting disease-free survival and overall survival.
