PATELLA SANDWICHED IN LATERAL CONDYLE FRACTURE OF FEMUR: AN IRREDUCIBLE, INCARCERATED DISLOCATION

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Rotational dislocations of the patella are uncommon injuries where the patella rotates and dislocates along its horizontal or vertical axis. The occurrence of this injury along with a fracture of the distal femur is rarer. Attempts to reduce this dislocation without identifying the fracture, such as a Hoffa fracture, compromise the prognosis of this injury. Here, we report the case of a 27-year-old male who presented with a rotational dislocation of the patella in the vertical axis with a concurrently occurring lateral condyle fracture of the femur with the patella sandwiched between the fracture. The possible mechanism of injury and the modality of treatment used have also been discussed here.
