Abstract
Turbo machines are the popular kinds of machines that include turbines and compressors. The energy transfer takes place between the fluid and the impeller in these types of machines in the complex flow passages both internally and externally. Due to the severe laws phenomena large amount of energy gets wasted during the energy conversion process. The performance improvement and its incorporation into the actual prototype is a real challenge these days. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), an analysis tool, is very helpful and popular very recently with its capability to model and simulate complex internal fluid flows and heat transfer aspects. The prime theme of this article is to analyse and review the research work conducted by various researchers in the domain of turbo machines for its performance enhancement. A detailed analysis of the research work including CFD simulations in pumps, turbines and compressors are well presented. The methodologies adopted in CFD analysis of such machines are dealt in detail so that the new researcher can get a clear-cut gap in the literature to continue the future prospects in research.
