Performance study of DFIG under variable wind speed for grid integration

DFIG based wind turbines are one of the cost effective leading technology for the wind energy generation. The modeling of Doubly Fed Induction Generator along with turbine and control strategy for the converters used in the DFIG is developed in MATLAB environment. The developed model is studied in stator flux oriented synchronously rotating reference frame. It enables independent control of active and reactive powers for efficient operation of the system. Initially the steady state behavior of the DFIG using designed RSC and GSC is analyzed. Its performance under transient state is analyzed for the different load torque and wind speed conditions. The performance of the DFIG is also analyzed for various modes of operation. The performance study of DFIG for hyper synchronous and hypo synchronous speeds is simulated and analyzed. A 15KW, 380V doubly fed induction generator with rated speed of 1500 rpm considered for the analysis. With the wind speed of 12m/sec a torque of 92 Nm is produced.
