Abstract
Underdeveloped industrial base and increase in competition along with the need for new and affordable treatments make the technology transfer an essential component of manufacturing of pharmaceuticals in developing countries. The ever changing business strategies of pharmaceutical companies increasingly involve intra and intercompany transfers of technology for reasons such as the need for additional capacity, relocation of operations or due to consolidations and mergers. This review article focuses on planning of any technology transfer process and discusses various drivers and barriers in emerging and developing countries for initiating a transfer. The work teams involved in the technology transfer, their roles and responsibility and certain challenges that a firm usually faces on implementing technology transfer of an already approved product also are discussed.
