Abstract
Around the world, the policies undertaken by several governmental agencies are the most significant factor in driving the commercialization of biofuel. Most of the older policies were undertaken to promote the country's own energy security, while the recent policies are objected to reduce carbon emissions. In addition, the blending mandate is one of the significant factors toward the successful commercialization of biofuels. The present chapter will primarily focus on several policies with influential parameters like (drivers and barriers) to promote the usage and commercialization of biofuels. In view of that, the latest status on several governmental policies of a few of the developed and developing countries like USA, Brazil, China, and India are reviewed to understand the present and future biofuel programs. Apart from cellulosic biofuel, an emphasis will also be given to microalgal biomass for the practical commercialization of biofuels. Finally, the chapter will conclude with the bottlenecks associated with the policies and the authors' own view to circumvent the existing market problems. The readers of the chapters will be able to learn the vitality of policies in promoting biofuel programs for commercial implantations.
