Abstract

Implantable methotrexate films using poly(D,L-lactic acid) and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLA) of different molecular weights were prepared. The in vitro drug release was dependent on the drug loading and molecular weight of the PLA. By blending these polymers in different ratios, the drug release could be controlled and modified. The antitumor efficacy in Sarcoma-180 tumor-bearing mice revealed that the implantable film was more efficacious than subcutaneous injection of plain methotrexate.
