Abstract
The integration of WSN and IoT plays a crucial role in health monitoring applications such as real-time data collection and management, remote patient monitoring, personalized health care services. However, these enabling technologies also pose significant security challenges that must be addressed to ensure the privacy, integrity, and confidentiality of individuals’ sensitive health data. In this regard, efficient security precautions, authentication mechanisms, encryption protocols, and access control strategies are required. This chapter discusses the importance of security in healthcare applications and security concerns of WSN and IoT in healthcare, especially authentication mechanisms, security attacks and breaches that can disrupt communication or lead to unauthorized access. This chapter will also discuss innovative security measures and solutions, such as proactive threat detection in data transmission using Amazon Web Service (AWS) GuardDuty. Furthermore, a real-time case study on security breaches in IoT and WSN healthcare is discussed, providing valuable insights into the practical implications of security vulnerabilities and the effects of misusing confidential health data.
