Progress in the synthesis and applications of polymeric nanomaterials derived from waste lignocellulosic biomass

    Abstract

    In the recent years, biomass-derived polymeric nanomaterials are receiving immense attentions for their potential usage as biopolymers due to the cost-effective synthesis process and nonpolluting features. In view of that, cellulose and lignin of lignocellulosic biomass are widely explored for the formation of several nano-ranged particles. The present chapter is focused on the progress in the greener synthesis of various nano-based polymeric constituents of lignocellulosic biomass. Further, an in-depth analysis is conducted to characterize the ultrastructural morphology of the nanomaterials. Apart from, several important aspects of structural modifications are discussed to improve the overall functionalities of the polymeric nanomaterials. Finally, all the emerging applications of nano-based cellulose and lignins are explored in different sectors including biomedical, environmental, and other fields. This chapter will be highly beneficial to the readers for acquiring a comprehensive knowledge on various critical aspects of lignocellulosic-derived polymeric nanomaterials in a single article.
