Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces and UAV Integration for Smart Cities: A Comprehensive Review

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

    Abstract

This paper provides a wide overview of the most recent advancements in Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) and their practical uses in unmanned aerial vehicle-assisted smart city infrastructure. We study how RIS and UAVs work together to improve urban communication networks, make the most use of available resources, and offer a variety of smart city services, including as monitoring for public safety, intelligent mobility, and environmental observation. The paper highlights the challenges such as technical, privacy, and other important aspects that arise from combining RIS with UAVs. In addition, we also identify challenges that need to be solved and combine these technology for improvement in smart cities. By utilizing the benefits of RIS, the knowledge offered in this study aims to guide the development of smart city systems that are safer and more efficient.
