N2 - This chapter argues for the ways in which nature, that is an invisible background to human activities, is brought to the fore-ground through rituals in some South Asian Traditions. Using two important conceptualizations that could explain the nonhuman other—distance and difference, the essay posits how the idea of kinship and relationship creates a framework of recognizing the nonhuman other to establish a relatedness of care and ethics. Rituals around nature may play a significant role in establishing such a relatedness of being.
