Abstract
This paper analyses the theories that support the conceptualisation of mediating influence of workplace spirituality in the interaction between transformational leadership and team effectiveness. A critical enquiry approach is used to identify relevant theories and their gaps to explore the theoretical foundations for the proposed relationship among constructs of the study. This paper has found that symbolic interactionist theories of identity and the theory of motivational effects of charismatic leadership based on the self-concept provide strong theoretical support to explain the relationship among constructs of the study. This paper has contributed to the research discourse on outcomes of transformational leadership by providing a team-level conceptualisation of constructs and the need for developing a robust scale for team-level analysis of workplace spirituality are the implications for future research. Creating meaningful work and building connectedness among team members are the managerial implications of this research. The theoretical premises are based on robust theories.
