Abstract

The successful application of cutting-edge technology, like remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GISs), has been demonstrated across several industries. These technologies have transformed our approach to various areas, including weather assessment and forecasting, geological and geographical analysis, and many more. It is an extremely adaptable method having applications in many different domains that can greatly aid in the evaluation and management of natural resources. Natural Resource Management has been greatly benefited by satellite-based geospatial technology, which facilitates both urban and rural development while aligning with the goals of sustainability. Detailed two- or three-dimensional data are provided by geospatial technology, offering precise information on factors such as population changes, land use, and urban infrastructure. Data are collected, stored, processed, and presented in two or three dimensions using geospatial technology. It includes computer-based systems such as Remote Sensing (RS), Thematic mapping (TM), Telemetry, Global Positioning System (GPS), and Geographic Information Systems (GISs). In this chapter, we will focus on one advanced satellite-based technology, delve into its historical development, and explore its components. This chapter also addresses various techniques and tools implemented in natural resource management, including vegetation monitoring and biodiversity conservation, soil moisture and agriculture management, water resource management, urban planning and land use, natural hazard detection and management, climate change assessment, ecosystem health and restoration, mineral exploration and mining, ocean and marine resource management, air quality monitoring, and coastal zone management.
