Abstract

Base isolation using lead rubber bearing (LRB) is one of the method of isolating a structure from ground motion. In the present study, analysis of a symmetrical space frame structure that is isolated with rubber bearing is carried out considering all six degrees-of-freedom at every node of the superstructure. The rubber bearing is modelled as nonlinear and response of the structure for different near fault earthquakes is studied. The effect of variation of stiffness ratio and bearing period of the isolator on the response is studied. It concludes that use of lead rubber bearing is effective in reducing peak response. Higher the bearing stiffness ratio less is the displacement.
