Abstract

Language and behavior are interwoven. Effective verbal communication is essential in the dental office because all behavior is modified by communication. The art of influencing the child’s mind in a normal conversation by selecting the correct words and language patterns is considered conversational hypnosis. It is a scientific and systematic method to change thoughts, emotions, decisions, and behavior in a completely unconscious way. A case of using conversational hypnosis in an anxious 8-year-old boy is presented to enable the child to cope and cooperate for the procedure in the dental office.
