Abstract
This book-length assessment on "Digital Inequalities in Media Education in South Asia: Context and Consequences of the Covid-19 Pandemic" examines media education, including journalism and communication studies, in South Asian countries during the Covid-19 pandemic. It aims to understand the impact of the pandemic on media education, particularly on its primary stakeholders: students, educators, and other higher education institutions of the region, which is severely affected by digital inequalities. The assessment also reviews the numerous challenges faced by students, educators, and other stakeholders in the field of media education during the pandemic, such as the significant digital divide in accessing ICT devices and services, using them effectively, and enabling individuals to lead the lives they value. Additionally, it explores how the capabilities and potential of students, educators, and institutions that have been damaged or lost during the pandemic can be restored in the future by safeguarding the credibility and practicality of media education from the adverse effects of any future unprecedented situations, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
