Review of control strategies for active magnetic bearings

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

This review article offers a thorough outline of control techniques employed in active magnetic bearing (AMB) systems. Various control techniques, including proportional-integral-derivative (PID), adaptive control, sliding mode control (SMC), model predictive control (MPC), fuzzy logic control (FLC), and robust control are discussed in detail, highlighting their principles, advantages, and limitations. Additionally, it reviews recent trends and advancements in AMB control systems, such as decentralized control, optimal control with the integration of MPC, SMC, and FLC. The paper summarizes the performance of different control strategies based on simulation studies, experimental validations, and practical implementations reported in the literature. Overall, this review serves as a valuable resource for understanding the state-of-the-art control strategies for AMB and guiding the development of efficient and robust control techniques.
