Self management and knowledge among people with type 2 diabetes

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge and self management among people with type 2 diabetes. Method: This study was carried out among 180 people with type 2 diabetes who admitted to tertiary care hospital at Udupi from June 2015 to January 2016. Data collected were basic demographic information and clinical items like HbA1c and BMI, knowledge, self management among people with type2 diabetes. Self management is assessed with diabetes self management questionnaire. Results: This study revealed moderate level of self management among 95% participants and moderate level of knowledge was observed among 85% participants. Conclusion: Considerable number i.e. 15% had inadequate knowledge regarding diabetes and its management which calls for appropriate intervention focusing on enhancing self management ability of people with type 2 diabetes.
