Abstract
A 60 yr old phenotypic female was operated on for a pelvic tumor. At laparotomy slight fibromuscular thickening was found in the region of the uterus and tubes, as well as solid 'ovarian' tumor on the right. The tumor and the left gonad were removed. The smooth tumor was 8 x 6 x 6 cm in size. Sections from the tumor showed closely packed tubules with lumina. Large clusters of Leydig cells were prominent at one pole of the tumor. This area probably represented the original gonad on this side as sections from the contralateral gonad showed an identical appearance. Buccal smears were negative for sex chromatin. Chromosomal analysis showed karyotype 46,XY, the patient thus being chromosomally a male.
