Abstract
Possession of the spirit, 'Siri' prevalent in the Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka has become a cult among the Tulu speaking communities who follow the matrilineal system. This paper examines the psychosocial and therapeutic elements of the Siri cult and finds that some of the ritual characteristics associated with Siri possession are similar to the patterns found elsewhere.
