Abstract

The solubility of carbamazepine was obtained in binary mixtures of dioxane-water and a second solvent series consisting of ethylacetate/methanol and methanol/water systems. The analysis of data indicated that the solubility in dioxane/water follows nonregular solution behaviour, while in the second solvent series, it is nearly regular. Besides predicting the level of solubility of drugs, an extended Hildebrand solubility approach (EHS) should be able to predict the solubility parameter, δ2, of the drugs, In this study, the δ2-value of carbamazepine was determined by an EHS approach and compared with the values obtained by other methods. All methods agree with each other and the δ2 value of carbamazepine is 10.675 H.
