Abstract
Since the first introduction of titanium alloy in aerospace engineering in 1950's, machining of titanium and its alloys has been a topic of great interest for industrial production in terms of chip formation, cutting forces, machining temperatures, tool wear, suitable machining environments etc. Some of the above problems are primarily caused by high machining temperature leading to poor productivity. Machining temperature can be controlled by efficient cooling methods like cryogenic cooling and high pressure cooling. Since conventional or low-pressure cooling method fail to effectively conduct away heat generated in cutting zone, which is responsible for the above said problems, it has been reported by different researchers that high pressure cooling can significantly improve machining of different steels and superalloys. The current paper presents the result of detailed study of chip formation & chip morphology in order to attain high efficiency in metal cutting by high pressure cooling using neat oil & water soluble oil.
