Sudoku and Optimal Sudoku Reconfiguration Techniques for Power Enhancement of Partial Shaded Solar PV system

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Generally, more amount of electrical energy is generated from the fossil fuels but the disadvantage of the fossil fuels as they release greenhouse gases into the environment, produces hazardous byproducts into the environment during their combustion, and they are non-renewable. Due to the more usage of the fossil fuels, its availability in the nature is diminishing. The cost of the electrical energy is mainly depending on demand in the global market. At the same time, solar energy is available in large quantities and free of cost. But the solar energy extraction depends on the environmental conditions. Partial shading on the solar PV affects the maximum power generation. Various PV array configurations are reported in the literature to enhance maximum power and out of those, the Total-Cross-Tied (TCT) model is generally preferred. But it is severely affected by the partial shading conditions. The deficiencies can be eradicated by considering Sudoku and Optimal sudoku reconfiguration techniques in the TCT configured PV array. These reconfiguration techniques will also help in power enhancement compared to TCT arrangement under shading conditions. Due to shading conditions, there are multiple number of power peaks. This article demonstrated and simulated the Sudoko and optimal Sudoku reconfiguration on the 9 × 9 PV array in the MATLAB environment, and their performances are compared with the TCT configuration under various shading conditions. The comparison results showed that, the Optimal Sudoku re-configuration provides higher power enhancement capability, better fill factors, lower power loss, and lesser number of multiple peaks in the P–V curve compared to TCT and Sudoku methods.
