Abstract
The Indian sports industry is witnessing rapid growth with the generous support and policies of stakeholders from the government and private sector. Driven by the great success of sports organizations, particularly in cricket, the country is going through a renaissance in the establishment of sports organizations in non-cricketing sports. This chapter provides a detailed account of the various policies that the country has made for the development and sustainability of sports organizations. In addition, the policies taken in a federal system like in India at various levels (local, state, and national) for the sustainability of the sports organizations are discussed. Practices adopted by sports organizations for sustainability are also elucidated here in detail. Furthermore, the challenges and the op¬portunity existing in the sustainability of the Indian sports organization are exemplified by taking Indian Premiere League Cricket as a case study. Finally, various pathways for sustainability of the Indian sports sector including emerging opportunities in the private sector are outlined.
