    Abstract

Building envelope plays a substantial role in the energy flows of the building. Pertinent selection of the façade can help in reducing the total energy demand of the building. This is ensured by analyzing the load on the HVAC and lighting systems. A three storied office building is modeled using the simulation program. Design builder to study the effect of various envelope parameters and dynamic shading techniques on the performance of the building. Then, the best results obtained are integrated with passive design techniques to maintain the thermal and visual comfort levels and consequently decrease building's energy consumption. Based on the analysis, it is emerged that a southern orientated building can reduce the energy consumption. The Window-wall ratio varies for different orientations with highest for north. The double pane low e coated glazing is preferred with venetian blinds as the shading technique to maintain the lighting levels and visual comfort within the building. This leads to a load reduction on the HVAC and lighting system by 81.8% and 22.4% respectively with combined energy savings of 19.27%.
