Abstract
The compound, 3-(4-ethylphenyl)-1-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one, was synthesized by using 4-methoxy-2-hydroxyacetophenone and 4-ethylbenzaldehyde solutions. The synthesized compound was characterized by spectroscopic techniques, and finally confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies. The compound is a dimer in nature, and crystallizes in the triclinic crystal class in the space group P1. The cell parameters are a = 9.6860(9)Å, b = 12.6650(17)Å, c = 13.4990(18)Å,α= 68.808(4),β= 81.149(7), g = 79.863(7), V = 1511.5(3) and Z = 4. In the crystal, O-H·O hydrogen bonds connect the hydroxy donor group and the C=O acceptor group. The R1[I > 2σ(I)] and wR2 (all data) values are 0.0600 and 0.1984, respectively.
