Abstract

A series of new 2-[4-(alkylsulfonyl) benzyl]-5-substituted-1,3,4-oxadiazole (6a-l) have been synthesized from 4-(alkyl thio) phenyl actetonitrile (1) through a multi step reaction sequence. The structures of new compounds were established on the basis of their elemental analysis, IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and mass spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their antioxidant activity.
