The impact of quality management practices, training and employee suggestion schemes on quality performance

    Abstract

    Quality has become an important competitive priority for manufacturing industries in the globalised scenario and this has resulted in firms benchmarking their quality practices among the best in the world. The purpose of this paper is to look into the impact of quality management practices on quality performance in a manufacturing firm of a public sector undertaking in India and explore the indirect impact of training and employee suggestion scheme on the relation between quality management practices and quality performance. Data was collected from 235 executives and analysed using partial least square. Results indicate that quality management practices had a positive impact on quality performance. Further analysis revealed that training partially mediates the relation between quality management practices and quality performance whereas employee suggestion scheme did not. Recommendations to ensure better organisational performance through quality management practices suggested.
