Abstract
Traditionally Electronystagmography (ENG) has long been the gold standard/or the objective testing of the equilibrtumfimction. In this study we have tried to evaluate the usefulness of ENG in vertiginous patients. Total of 86 patients with vertigo of various etiologies underwent electronystagmography along with CT/MRI Scan and other investigations in Department of Otolaryngology and Head & neck surgery, K.H. Manipal (Tertiary care centre) during Dec '2004 to July '2006. Culmination frequencies of caloric test were placed in a synoptical Butterfly chart for the reasons of easy, quantitative interpretation of data and comprehensible results. It was seen that ENG though time consuming, is an important diagnostic tool for the confirmation of the suspected clinical findings. It does need other ancillary and clinical examination for clinching the diagnosis.
