Abstract
A case of tissue emphysema due to oxygen liberated from hydrogen peroxide is presented. During irrigation of the root canal, the patient developed rapid extensive emphysema. Hydrogen peroxide had been forced into the infraorbital loose connective tissue as a result of a faulty access cavity and lateral perforation of the root. Since the swelling was noninfective and noninflammatory in nature, it resolved in a short time.
