Tracing devices and privacy concerns

Rapid technological evolution has also introduced a plethora of innovations that raise convenience, security, and efficiency levels in daily life. One such innovation is tracing technology-technology used in devices for real-time tracking and surveillance of people, goods, and vehicles. As increasing numbers of devices are being installed, the issue of invasion of privacy and eavesdropping has emerged as a cause of increasing concern. As societies continue to become more interconnected and data-based, the balance between the usefulness of tracing devices and protecting privacy rights must be more strongly emphasized. This chapter examines different kinds of tracing devices, how and why they are used, the risks they pose, as well as the law and ethics that have evolved to restrict their ambit over privacy.
