Treatment of depression during pregnancy

Abstract

Women of child bearing age are at a high risk for depression. Despite the high incidence of depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period, guidelines for treating this depression are lacking. It is a challenge to treat the illness effectively and also to minimize risk to the fetus or the neonate. The safety of antidepressants during pregnancy is an unresolved issue and has made it difficulttochoosetheappropriate antidepressant to be used during pregnancy. In this review we have suggested some strategies that may be useful to the physicians.
