Undergraduate students perspective on ethics and communication modules

Abstract

Introduction A good clinical practice should include the following key components noble behavior, proper attitude, appropriate and timely communication, and compassion. So, keeping that in mind we have incorporated a structured program on attitude, ethics and communication in our medical college. So this study was conducted to know the perspective of students regarding ethics and communication modules which were taught to them. Materials and Method Study was conducted on 487 undergraduate medical students. They were told to fill the questionnaire regarding ethics and communication modules. The questionnaire was made on Google form which was uploaded on their e-learning platform. Later the results were analyzed. Results 58.5% of students mentioned that they got aware about ethics and communication after attending the sessions. 93% of student told that communication and soft skills should be taught to doctors. 87.3% mentioned that ethics and communication modules helped them in developing patient centered care and 95.7% mentioned that developing communication skills is as important as developing medical knowledge. Conclusion From our study it is clear the even students feels that ethics and communication is very important in their profession. So, it is important to implement ethics and communication in their routine curriculum.
