Abstract

The vigorous demand for big data, cloud computing and the development of 5G technology forced the data centres to grow consistently. The power supply system of data centre requires highly efficient and reliable power to maintain the regular operation of information technology (IT) equipment's. In this paper, the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) operation of smart transformer (ST) fed triple-active bridge (TAB) converter for continuity of power supply in data centres is explored. The ST fed TAB converter offers quality ac/dc powers at different voltage levels, provides backup power, and ensures reliability of power distribution in data centres. Renewable energy sources (RES) such as solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) are the integral elements in UPS operation. The PSCAD software is utilized to simulate the system and verify its functionality in UPS mode, guaranteeing a continuous power supply to data centres.
