Use of Bio-Fibers in Various Practical Applications

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Government regulations are calling for lesser dependence on petroleum and plastic products that are considered to be imminent threat to the environment. Greater emphasis on the reduction of carbon footprints has forced researchers and industries in and around the world to come up with greener products through the incorporation of natural, biodegradable materials wherever possible. High technology applications such as aerospace and automotive sectors are under severe stress to incorporate high performance solutions that not only consume lesser petroleum products but are also environment-friendly. This led to the emergence of low-weight, high- strength composite materials reinforced with natural fibers. The present paper enumerates the use of few such natural fibers which can replace the synthetic fibers in the near future.
