VSG Based Novel Control for Interlinking Converter in Islanded Hybrid Microgrids

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

    Abstract

AC and DC microgrids are joined through interlinking converter in a hybrid microgrid. Control of interlinking converter plays an important part in the overall operation of hybrid microgrid. Whether combining AC and DC microgrids or integrating various renewable energy source to either AC or DC systems, the effect is to add more and more converters to the generation system which are inertia-less. It is a challenge to maintain voltage and frequency stability of such a system during load transients. In this paper, control strategy is formulated for the interlinking converter to make it behave as a synchronous generator. In addition to achieving proportional load sharing, it is able to produce voltage, power support to AC bus during islanding of AC microgrid, feed reactive loads on AC side from DC subgrid and also adds to the inertia of the whole system.
