Abstract
Stress is a pervasive phenomenon that significantly affects physical and mental health when it exceeds an individual's adaptive capacity. With the modern lifestyle contributing to heightened stress levels, understanding its impact on the brain and associated systems has become crucial. Stress responses are mediated by complex neurobiological interactions, including the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and the autonomic nervous system. Chronic stress can lead to neuropsychiatric conditions like anxiety and depression, profoundly affecting quality of life and overall health. This review delves into the foundational concepts of stress, its neurological underpinnings, and its effects on mental health. Additionally, it explores current and emerging interventions such as mindfulness, yoga, and lifestyle medicine aimed at mitigating stress-related disorders. By integrating traditional and alternative approaches, a holistic framework for stress management can be established. These insights are vital for developing innovative therapeutic strategies and promoting resilience against stress-induced conditions.
